OUR HISTORY
Mr.
& Mrs. Fred Bourn established Mendenhall Grocery and Grain in 1928.
At that time, it provided locals with a place to purchase feed, seed
and grocery items. It has served the needs of the community for many
years with products such as these.
Pam and Kent Jones purchased the store in the
summer of 2004. By the first of October in 2004 they added
Mississippi made products, gifts items, and specialty foods to their
inventory. They continued with the original product line until the
summer of 2006. Because the needs of the community and the clientele
changed, the product line changed. The old feed bins that once
contained grain now are used for bath and body products and the old
nail bin currently hold a wide variety of Mississippi tee shirts.
Even though there have been changes, they have tried to maintain
some of the ambiance from the original store. The original roll top
cash register was purchased used by Mr. Bourn, in 1928. After
hurricane Katrina hit the area, it was the only cash register in
town that was working. They still have the same wooden floors that
used to hold bags of feed and seed.
Many Mississippi made
products line the shelves that once held overalls and boots. Their
goal is to provide a variety of specialty food and gift items for
today's busy working man or woman with that same atmosphere that the
Bourne's created in 1928.
